I've blogged in the past about how bad this football program used to be. I played on this team before my mission and before Coach Ed Lamb changed Cedar City's view on football. The '07 team didn't win a game, and finished the season on an 18 game losing streak. I can guarantee that that team never had a player run practice session.
Player run practice is just as it sounds: the players run the practice without coaches. The NCAA allows the coaches to maintain only a certain number of hours a week to practice and coach us. When the time has been used up, we practice ourselves. Something that the '07 team never thought of. In the spring, we do 7-on-7 every Tuesday and Thursday. No one has to go, but it's probably a good idea that you do.
More and more players are getting extra reps when our opponents aren't. Obviously, without the coaches there it isn't like practice usual is, but it's something. It's actually a lot of fun too. We don't always get to be together as a team when we're aren't working in the weight room or practicing. So, it's our time we have to be around each other and hang other do what we love: play football.
